Something about Lorena

Lorena Tortora is a founder member with Gabriele Roveda of Arcenciel New – not just a business, but a passionate and on-going creative project applied to communication.
As a professional photographer and freelance video maker Lorena also collaborates with Sìncrasi, an artistic laboratory conducted by Anna Bocchi.
A good portion of her life is dominated by pixels, but painting, video and music are also an integral part of her essence.
Over the last few years she has come back to her primordial passion: Photography.

At present her work is focused on people and on the sensual nature of her materials.

The perishable quality of such materials and the effect this has on the creative process is also a subject of fascination.

Lorena’s photography is an important part of a very eclectic creative process which includes various other techniques like printing, collage, painting, video and many others. Photography may be the starting point, yet the digital and two-dimensional surface of an image is often just the beginning of a more elaborate concept.

Lorena Tortora lives and works in Milan, Italy. She holds a diploma of higher education in advertising graphics and a Masters in audio/video production from the European Institute of Design in Milan. Over the last few years, she has completed several photography courses under Giulia Bianchi and Sara Munari.

How much of our lives is dependent on chance? Is everything preordained or are we the sole designers of our destiny?
I wonder …
In any case, I can tell you that I had the good fortune of having a photographer as a next-door neighbour! This fortuitous coincidence was instrumental in gaining a mental access to the world of photography, graphics and communication.
Thus, my first approach to the subject was through a small photographic studio and there, amidst still lives and live models, is where I spent my summers and after school hours, soaking it all in.

Then came my diploma in graphic and advertising techniques, my specialization in the very first computer graphic system, the study of Cobol programming and many other pioneering computer languages of the time. And finally, my very first job in a graphic studio, Arcenciel.

My passion for art evolved in parallel with the development of new audio/video technologies and a small video camera seemed like the ideal instrument for exploring my artistic ambitions.
Later I humbly returned to school and completed my Masters in Audio/Video Techniques at IED. I sought higher knowledge and professionalism only to discover that even I could have taught the docents a thing or two…
Studio Azzurro is my idol and I am even able to step into the world of video Art, for a short while.

The habit of printing photographs is but a memory which fades in the distance and pixels make a bold entrance in my life, are a fundamental part of my daily routine.

Finally, I found my way back to my primary passion but with a semi-professional digital camera.

And what if my neighbour had been a gardener?
